About AFS-Malaysia

AFS Statement of Purpose
AFS is an international, voluntary, non-governmental, non-profit organization that provides intercultural learning opportunities to help people develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to create a more just and peaceful world.
The Core Values and Attributes of AFS
AFS enables people to act as responsible global citizens working
for peace and understanding in a diverse world. It acknowledges
that peace is a dynamic concept threatened by injustice, inequity
and intolerance.
AFS seeks to affirm faith in the dignity and worth of every human
being and of all nations and cultures. It encourages respect for human
rights and fundamental freedoms without distinction as to race, sex, language, religion or social status.
AFS activities are based on our core values of dignity, respect for differences, harmony, sensitivity and tolerance adopted at the 1993 World Congress.
AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia
AFS Malaysia was established as a branch office of AFS
International in 1958. It comprises of a national organization made
up of volunteers, usually enthusiastic returnees, and the National
Office consisting of paid staff to execute all policies issued from the
AFS main branch in New York. This status was maintained for the next 20
years although the name
AFS Malaysia was changed to Antarabudaya Malaysia (ABM).
The change came about when AFS International found that the
system was no longer efficient in a highly competitive world.
It dawned on them that they had to find a solution fast. The answer
was decentralization. All branch offices would be given autonomy in
the New Global Partner Network. Each partner was to be responsible for its survival and growth.Through a lot of ups and downs, we finally managed to be promoted as Associate Partner in September 1997.
The local AFS office in Malaysia is located near the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. If you would like to know more about the organization or any of the programmes that we offer, please feel free to write to:-
